Open Call

AFP puts out a call for spatial designers, Product designers and architects across India on social media platforms. Out of 80+ applicants every year, 5 are chosen to form the cohort.

Introductory meet

The cohort meets the AFP team and mentors. They are introduced to the initiative in detail and take this opportunity to share ideas and get to know each other.

Artist inspiration + Type of play

Each designer picks an artist to inspire the design of their play structure. They consider the types of play or movement that their play space encourages and the materials required to build it.

Initial concepts and reviews

Designers present initial 3d views and renders. This is followed peer discussion and mentor feedback. The goal is to create an engaging play structure for children between the ages of 5 and 12. After multiple rounds of iterations, the drawings are finally reviewed by a structural engineer to ensure safety standards are met.

Selecting schools and vendors

AFP team puts out an open call for government aided schools. Once the final schools are selected, vendors are identified in and around the same locations.

Artist inspiration + Type of play

Prototyping is crucial to create a stable and aesthetic play structure. The final build is supervised by the AFP team and the designer at the school site.
